An AI search visibility review should produce a short list of factual and website improvements, not just screenshots of answers. For a local business, the central questions are whether people can discover the business, understand its services and reach the right next step.

Choose a small set of real customer decisions

Start with questions your business can actually help answer. A Bloomfield Hills professional practice might want a website that explains services and makes contacting the office simple. A Troy company might need a redesign that preserves existing content and connects to its enquiry process. These are example scenarios, not client results.

Write down a handful of questions at different stages: understanding the problem, comparing approaches and selecting a provider. Include the service area when it changes the decision. Avoid running hundreds of nearly identical prompts and treating the resulting count as a reliable market share.

Record enough context to interpret each observation

Use a worksheet with the date, tool, exact question, cited URLs and a short factual assessment. Note whether the answer describes the correct business, mixes it with another company or gives an unsupported service or location. Search-assisted answers can vary, so retain the context rather than presenting the observation as a permanent position.

Trace an error to its source

If an answer says the business has a Birmingham office when it only serves Birmingham, review the linked source and your own location language. A footer list of cities without context may need a clearer label. An outdated directory entry may require a separate correction through that directory.

Keep an evidence column in the worksheet. Distinguish “the cited page says this” from “we suspect this source contributed.” That distinction prevents wasted effort based on an assumption about how a system generated an answer.

Inspect the website before commissioning more content

Check whether the relevant service page is public, readable on mobile and linked from the navigation or a related page. Confirm its title describes the subject and its contact link works. If the page is difficult to find on your own site, address that before adding another loosely related blog post.

Google explains that AI features use established search foundations and that eligibility does not guarantee inclusion. Its AI search guidance is a better reference point than a promise of guaranteed citations.

Turn the review into a prioritized work list

Fix wrong contact details and misleading claims first. Next, improve the pages most closely tied to your core services. Add supporting content only when it answers an important question those pages do not already cover.

Give each task an owner and a completion check. “Improve AI visibility” is too broad. “Clarify that the company is based in Pontiac and serves Oakland County on the contact page” is actionable and verifiable. Keep a dated change log so a later review can distinguish completed work from new observations.

Pair these checks with actual website enquiries; a correct mention does not automatically produce a customer. Read our guides to updating existing content and measuring enquiries, or ask DH Digital Design to review your website.
